1) To avoid abuses in the Athletic program here at St. Leonard, the policy will be as follows: Eligibility for the St. Leonard sports programs for those youth in Youth Ministry will be based on students being in good standing in the Youth Ministry Program the previous year, and to stay in good standing the year they are participating in the sport. Good Standing Requirements: 80% attendance - multiple enrichments are offered (see #4 attendance below) Absences during Religious Education class time due to events composed of youth in St. Leonard Athletic Program are not acceptable (practices, games, tournaments, team pictures, etc.) Early Dismissal for St. Leonard Athletics will not be tolerated. NOTE: For students in grade 7, all "Good Standing Requirements" must be completed by May 31, 2011 in order to participate in St. Leonard sports programs for 2011-2012.
2) Home study - For the families who cannot attend classes due to a legitimate conflict, St. Leonard Religious Education offers a Home Study alternative on an exception basis only. Students benefit greatly from the classroom experience which cannot be duplicated at home.
All Home Study participants are required to attend two enrichments. As with all students, if a parent attends an enrichment with the student, it will count as two, fulfilling the requirement. Each student is also required to attend a Reconciliation service each year as scheduled. All students are required to participate in community service (Gr. 7 - 2 hours; Gr. 8 - 5 hours; Gr. 9 - 10 hours). Service hours become part of the student record and are a component of "good standing" status. If you have questions or would like additional information on our Home Study program for grades 7, 8, and 9, please contact Bethanne Maus-Schaefer at: 262-679-0880.
3) All students are required to attend two enrichments, if a parent attends an enrichment with their child, it counts as two enrichments. NOTE: Enrichment dates will be mailed to the parents. They can also be found on this website. Click on the Youth Ministry tab. Then select 'Enrichment Schedule' for the most current listing of enrichments.
4) ATTENDANCE (Class and Enrichments) - Each student is required to 80% attendance. There are 16 classes and 2 enrichments your child is expected to attend. Enrichments are included in the attendance requriements for a total of 18 required classes/enrichments. Your child may have a total or 4 absences. They must attend at least:
5) SERVICE HOURS REQUIREMENTS: There are service hour requirements for all grades in the Youth Ministry program. In the past, only ninth grade has had a minimum amount of service they must complete. The hour requirements are below: Service can be completed in a variety of ways: at the parish, in our community, and/or in the home. We have a wide assortment of projects through our parish with all of the various activities, events and committees. Information is provided, as it becomes available. We also understand that students are involved in service elsewhere, outside the parish walls, and these activities can be (in most cases) recorded as service commitments. Aside from this information being available at the time of Confirmation, these records can be used to provide letters of recommendation for colleges, job references, etc., but only if they are complete. It is beneficial for all students to record their service for all of these reasons. To help in this endeavor, there are purple service record forms located in the narthex bookracks near the Office of Worship as well as in the bins outside of the Religious Education Office. Please completely fill out one purple form for each project. Forms must be signed by both the student and a committee representative or parent to be accepted. The information on the purple form should be as detailed as possible and will be recorded in the student file as part of his or her record. If you have any questions on the service portion of your child's Religious Education experience, please contact: Bethanne Maus-Schaefer - Office 262-679-0880
6) A Reconciliation Service is required. Thursday, November 18, 2010 6:00pm in Church (oriented for grades 8 - 11) NOTE: Your child may attend any one of the Reconciliation Services listed above.
